The sun hung in the sky over the beach, people going about their day, swimming, suntanning, the like. Except one person. Rachael laid out on a towel, sunglasses resting on her head, clad in a blue bikini, and laying under an umbrella. She had gone for a short swim but the sun got annoying so she retreated to the shade. She had a book in hand, reading it. The title said 'Cambria'. Apparently her friend had taken to writing and had wrote a series that undeniably was based on her life as a Vampire. Though he had changed the real vampiric traits with stereotypical ones and had changed a lot around. It was honestly a good read though.
She was annoyed at having to stay in shade and not being able to swim for long but...those were the breaks when one was an immortal, blood sucking, being.

Hot summer sun beat down upon Rockaway that early June day. The wind whipped across the sandy beach with beautiful sands, rolling waves, and the sound of seagulls overhead amidst conversations after conversations. Not a cloud in the sky, no riptides, and the weather was surprisingly calm. The forecast called for rain around Friday but, for now, it was the perfect day to go to the beach.
Poison had already applied her sunscreen, her black, raised-heeled beach sandals clacking upon the boardwalk as she found her way to a popsicle vendor. As usual, she wasn't wearing that much, but her side-tied, double-layered bikini-skirt revealed a bit less than her usual denim cutoffs. The frilled bikini top, tied at the center of her chest, was a step down in that regard (or step up, from her perspective), as it showed off a bit more of her bust than her typical tank top. With a smirk, she rested her shoulder on the counter of the ice cream man's shop and placed her hand against her cheek, prepared to order.
She teased the vendor for a bit, pushing her cleavage up a little and generally behaving in a manner that drew his attention. Reaching into her pink-and-white beach bag, she pulled out three quarters to pay for the $1 blue raspberry ice pop. At first, the man hesitated, but he ultimately relented to the pink-haired woman's haggling. Taking the treat, she blew him a kiss and licked against the blue dessert before placing it between her glossy lips, staining them a bit. With a small chuckle, she headed back to where she'd set her umbrella and fold-up beach chair.
The area she'd chosen wasn't terribly crowded, but she noticed someone new now let their towel down beside her own. At first, Poison pulled her sunglasses down her nose to peer at the beautiful, pale-skinned, raven-haired woman. With a shrug, she continued to her beach chair and reclined onto it, curling her pink-painted toes and enjoying the feeling of the sun's warmth against her bikini-clad body and the shade of her umbrella.
For a while, Poison seemed content with that, but she soon grew bored and decided to turn on her boombox tuned to 95.5 FM WPLJ, Madonna's "Vogue" already playing on the station. Turning over onto her side, Poison took a glance over to the frost-eyed girl laying nearest to her, placidly suckling on her halfway-done popsicle.
Then she noticed the book clutched in her hands, one of the "Cambria" series of vampire novels! Poison loved those books, but it was rare to meet anyone else who read them. She found the main character relatable and the story exhilarating, but could never quite get into the book club or, god forbid, fan club scene. She decided to try to broach the subject with the woman.
"Hey, is that a 'Cambria' novel you're reading?" she asked with a smile, moving her sunglasses up to her forehead. "Oh my God, almost no one else I know reads those! Which book are you on — or are you re-reading?"

Rachael glanced up at the pink hair woman, flashing a friendly smile. "Ah yes it is. First reading. At the part with a hunter fighting her using a strange power." she said. Gregory had put her battle with that man with the 'spirit'. He wrote it based on what he saw of it and her account. Since he hadn't been able to see it as she had been able to back in her prime, he wrote it as being 'blades of wind' instead of...well a giant mantis-looking creature.
He had also changed the man's death from her eye fluid jet 'beam' through his head to a quick knife throw while he was distracted by the fact she hadn't burned up in the sun, which he hadn't actually wrote the reason for yet...not that they actually knew the reason it happened in reality.....but he hadn't thought up a way to explain it in the book yet. He mentioned maybe bringing it up once the series moved into the modern times. The books so far were good though. She liked the liberties he took with her life..to make it seem like it happened to someone entirely different than herself, even though her appearance was Rachael's to a T.
Rachael wondered if, assuming the woman was the fan she said she was, would notice that fact.

Poison did notice, as a matter of fact, that this woman bore striking resemblance to the character Cambria. She assumed she must be a big fan, perhaps dying her hair and cultivating a look akin to the fictional vampire's. Even knowing about supernatural abilities such as Stands, it would be a long leap in logic for Poison to assume the woman before her was a vampire (on a sunny beach!), or even that she was simply the person upon whom the novels were based.
"Oh, yeah, that part. I still don't really get how she managed to survive that, but I'm sure we'll get a good enough explanation." She waved her hand dismissively, "Still felt kind of cheap, but whatever!" The woman popped her popsicle back into her mouth and sucked on it for a bit. Her glossy lips and tongue were stained blue by the treat, which began to melt down the stick and onto her fingers from the hot sun.
After a few moments, she simply bit the ice pop in half, losing patience with sucking on it and chewing it up before swallowing. She winced, getting a mild ice cream headache from it, licking the roof of her mouth to no avail due to how cold her tongue became. Once it subsided, she did the same with the lower half of the ice pop and casually discarded it. It seemed littering didn't bother her very much.
The woman turned onto her back again, her shock of pink hair forming a cushion between her back and the chair. She pulled her sunglasses back down and spoke again, "You can call me Poison, by the way. What should I call you?"

Rachael smiled, resisting a chuckle. Yes, she wasn't sure herself how she had survived and was now able to move about in the sunlight. The answer to that question had avoided her for years. "It'll probably be revealed in a later volume." she said. When the woman, Poison, introduced herself and asked for her name she responded. "I'm Rachael, nice to meet you. Come to the beach often? I admit I don't get out into the sun much myself....as is probably obvious by my complexion." she said, giggling.
"I just...tend to sunburn easily." she stated. It wasn't far from the truth. She no longer would burn up in the sun, she knew how easily she used to due to losing an arm to the sun's rays once, but it still had an effect on her. Made her....sick for a lack of better words. She could stay out for a while but eventually she'd have to seek shade or she'd keel over.

"Yeah! I come here a lot whenever summer rolls around," Poison replied, "though I've vacationed in Miami and Long Beach, too. You can probably tell that I visit often." Indeed, she already developed a noticeable bronzed tan from the time she'd spent today, tan-lines clear where her bikini top and skirt end.
She raised her head slightly, tuning it in the vampire's direction as she mentioned getting sunburned easily. Casually, Poison tossed Rachael a bottle of sunscreen, "Well, knock yourself out with that, then." Her hands moved behind her head and she crossed her legs, knees bent as she enjoyed the sun's rays and sighed.
"So, aside from having good taste in books and relaxation, what do you do for fun, Rachael?"

Rachael eyed the sunscreen and chuckled. Turning a page of the book, she listened to the woman, casting a glance towards her when she said Rachael could probably tell she wasn't afraid of the sun. "I can see that." she stated, smiling. When questioned on what she did for fun, she sighed. "To be honest...I've been away...for awhile. I'm not certain what places and things have sprung up while I was gone. You have any suggestions?" she asked, looking to her, closing the book after marking her spot in it.
