Name: Agent Nathaniel Days
Office of Strategic Services
(Age of Days)
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 70
Appearance:
A young man, not especially remarkable. He has his black hair in a rather tight military haircut, and wears simple clothing. His eyes are a hazel brown, with no facial hair, and no obviously unusual features. He would not stand out to most, appearing as some soldier of 24 or so. However, a look at his eyes reveals a stare that no young man should have.
When he puts on his old outfit, however, he is significantly more noticeable. A peaked cap, pulled low over his eyes, and a long military duster buttoned up. He looks for all the world as though he's just stepped out of a World War 2 drama. The one difference is the half-face gas mask he wears, the tube splitting under the coat and flowing down his arms.

History:
The early 1900s were a complicated time. The world was just coming off the horrors of the first World War, and the United States was adjusting to the new realities of warfare. Not even 150 years old, and the new nation was required to adjust to the most dramatic conflict the world had ever known.
Nathaniel Days was born in Boston, just days after the end of World War I. His father had come home from the fronts only a few days earlier, and upon holding him for the first time, felt a swelling of pride. This was what he had been fighting for. As Nathaniel grew, he heard stories from his father. Tales of the war, even ones that perhaps a young boy should not hear. However, his father wanted to impress upon his son the ideals of the military.
In the 30s, the Great Depression hit. People everywhere were hit hard, and it quickly became clear that his father, a veteran, and his mother, a secretary, would have trouble supporting 3 people. In addition, there was stirrings of unrest in Europe, and Japan started a war with the Republic of China. Saying goodbye to a proud father and a sobbing mother, he left for boot camp.
He excelled in basic training, having spent his youth trying to match his father's well maintained combat readiness. He was assigned to the 10th Marine Regiment, and spent his time around base assisting with labor and guard duty. He did manage to take part in a few deployments, even in the relatively peaceful times for the United States. It was there that he caught the attention of higher ups for his grasp of unconventional tactics and intelligence gathering. The 10th Regiment was an Artillery group, and the young soldier took advantage of the division's tactics to retrieve intel from bombed locations.
When the US officially declared war on Japan and then Germany, the 10th Regiment was placed into the 2nd Marine Division, and set to deploy shortly thereafter. However, Nathaniel found himself removed from the regiment, supposedly for medical reasons. In actuality, he had been tapped to join the fledgling Office of Strategic Services.
Over the course of the War, Nathaniel became a reliable agent of the OSS, accomplishing many missions and gathering hugely helpful tactical info. He wasn't a legend, but he was a very useful asset nonetheless. Near the twilight of the War, as Germany was being pushed closer to defeat, rumors came to light about strange events in 1938. Supposedly, an unusually augmented German soldier had been sighted in Stalingrad, and intel of excavations before the war were filtered through the OSS.
On June 5th, on the eve of Operation Overlord, Nathaniel and a small team launched an operation to infiltrate and destroy a secret Nazi laboratory in the Alps. Dropped in by airplane, they were to meet up with an Allied detachment in one week, once the invasion of German Territory had been successful enough to allow an extraction. What they found was something that could well have changed the tide of the War.
The German army had acquired Stone Masks, and were intending to use their power to create super-soldiers. Nathaniel and his team did their best to get in and out quietly, but they were discovered in the process of trying to rig the base to blow. Their fight damaged the gas tanks on the lower levels, and they were shot and left to die as the scientists began evacuating. Nathaniel, still barely conscious, searched around for a gas mask, or anything to keep the noxious chemical weapons from being inhaled. His hand closed on something that felt like a mask, and he blindly placed it on his face.
The remainder of the day was a whirlwind of events. His team was killed, and Nathaniel was left on the edge of death. He believed, for a moment, he would not see the next morning, but the next day dawned with Nathaniel ensconced in a cave at the foot of the mountain, the wreckage of the destroyed base still smoldering above. The scientist's notes gave him a better idea of his new state, and he waited for nightfall. There had been only one option to complete the mission, and so Nathaniel had embraced the night.
The bodies of those who left on that mission were never recovered. They had been selected both for competence, and for having nobody to return to. Nathaniel's parents were told that he had died in service of his country. Throughout the last year of the war, stories began to filter among the troops of figures that moved through the night, charging headlong into the enemy, and then vanishing into the ethers by break of day. Once, it saved a young man whose older brother had never come back from a classified mission. When asked his name, he responded "Agent Days, son. Your Brother asked me to look out for you."
At the close of World War 2, he vanished, but stories filtered down through the years. The OSS closed up shop after the end of hostilities, but the file of the Lost Agent was passed down through US Intelligence agencies. Referred to as "Irregular Asset: Eternal Winter", the legend of a soldier who never came back in from the cold managed to remain. It helped that, throughout the US's conflicts, tales of him invariably appeared. The Korean War, Vietnam, The invasion of Grenada, the Gulf War. At some point, the soldier would appear, surviving shots that should have killed, retrieving the bodies of the fallen.
With America temporarily involved in relative peace, Nathaniel Days had come to New York for some R&R. However, in the de-facto center of the US, he found a secret battle that raged between the Stand Users, Hamon fighters, and Vampires of the Big Apple. Donning his gas mask, he continues to fight, even after all that he originally fought for has gone from this world. Everything except his country, it's ideals, and the words he spoke for his Corps over 50 years ago on the shores of North Carolina. "Honor. Duty. Courage."
