History:
From a young age, Cliff knew he was destined for great things. It was only a natural thing to assume; his mother and father told him so nearly every day, after all. He was born into a fairly rich family, well known for their incredible luck: Cliff's great grandfather struck oil on multiple occasions, his grandfather had won the lottery twice and his father had done incredibly well in the cutthroat world of the Stock Market by investing in the Speedwagon Foundation in its earlier days. Cliff himself, however, was cursed with a fairly bad temper.
Cliff would come home with bruises and scrapes countless times during his childhood. The simplest things would tick him off: Getting bad grades, bullies trying to pick on him; even simple comments about his hair would send him into a rage. It was a clear problem, but at the very least, it slowly gave him a tougher skin. His parents weren't worried much; as his father always said "A little fighting here and there builds character!"
Despite coming from such a rich family, Cliff found it hard to actually stay in any one school. He was such a bad egg that he was eventually expelled from just about every school in his home state of California. His parents eventually gave up on the public system, opting to enroll their son in home school. They hired the best teachers money could buy, but they usually didn't stick around long due to Cliff's harsh attitude.
When the young boy matured, he was hired by his own old man: Angus Slade. The intimidating man ran a bank of all things(known as Angus and Co). Cliff was placed in the mail room, where he, as expected, got into heaps of trouble with his peers. Fights were more common than mail actually being sorted during his employment there. Eventually, he was fired due to repeated violent outbursts.
Through the years though, Cliff slowly mellowed out a bit, becoming a bit more calculating compared to his younger self. Though he still had his temper hidden beneath the surface, he did well to hide it away...
Most of the time.
On a particularly stormy night, the young man got into an argument with his father. Cliff wanted to start his own company, but Angus disapproved harshly for a myriad of reasons. Though he tried to argue his case, it was no good. Angus was a hard man to change the mind of, especially in situations involving money. Eventually, Cliff's father had enough. He ended the discussion with an ultimatum:
"Stop this nonsense of making your own company, or I will disown you!"
Shortly after, Cliff was disowned. In a rage, he packed his bags and left to New York, hoping to start his life anew, without the intrusions of his unhelpful father. He found life alone tough at first, but as fate would have it, he would soon be blessed with the famous luck of the Slade family.
On the way home to his small apartment from a long day of work at the box factory, Cliff was jumped by a group of thugs, looking to take what little money he had, along with his life. He fought them as best he could, but in the end, their numbers outweighed his experience in fighting.
One of the thugs brandished a pistol, aiming it at the downed and defenseless Cliff. The young man shut his eyes tight as he heard the gun fire... But the bullet never came.
After a few moments, Cliff opened his eyes, stunned to see a strange man clad in metallic armor standing over him. The bullet had somehow turned to a pile of liquefied metal, and this man was most likely the cause of it. The man with the gun stared in confused terror, before quickly dropping the gun and making a run for it. His friends quickly followed suit, leaving Cliff alone with his savior.
Cliff slowly stood, thanking the man profusely. For some odd reason however, the man did not respond. He tried quite a bit to try and get a response out of the man, eventually resorting to trying to punch him in the face. As his fist flew forward, the armor-clad man's did so as well, releasing a jet of flame from his knuckles! The fire soared over Cliff, causing a nearby bag of garbage to explode violently.
Confused and painfully intrigued, Cliff tried to make the warrior mimic him again. Each offensive act he did caused the strange man to do the same. It seemed the two of them were linked somehow!
After a few more minutes of testing, Cliff decided to take this back to his house. He spent the entire night experimenting with this creature, eventually passing out on the couch when the sun was about to rise. He awoke nearly moments later, returning to fiddling with the creature immediately. Eventually, he decided to take his experimentation to the streets, hoping to gauge reactions from the general public.
He soon found, however, that nobody paid the strange warrior any mind! It was incredibly mystifying, to say the least. After a few moments of pondering, an idea came to him! Cliff quickly made his way to the library; he had a hunch that this strange man following him might just be paranormal!
After about a few hours of searching, he came across some other cases of people being visited by strange spirits in old newspapers. The people were labelled as crazy, but the way they explained these spirits were eerily similar to the way his own mystery man acted and looked. He continued researching the subject, but it seemed this well of information had run dry. The only thing he could figure out from this library was that some of these insane people called these spirits a "Stand".
For the next few months, he looked into more sinister ways to earn a living. With an invisible ally who seemed to lack a moral compass, it was quite easy to commit crime after crime, amassing a hefty bit of cash in the process. He was even able to keep himself under the radar; with his stand doing most of the legwork, he was able to simply sit near the scene of the crime, awaiting his reward to be delivered by an invisible courier.
Despite this life netting him quite the hefty bit of money, he quickly realized this lifestyle wasn't going to get him anywhere. He needed to learn more about this Stand, as well as make a name for himself in the world. With a hefty bit of cash in his pocket, and curiosity burning in his soul, he began his quest to become as great as his father said he would be.
